Cremation Guidelines & Columbarium Information

Now that cremation is permitted, we urge all Catholics to follow the guidelines of the Church.  The Church requires that All cremated remains be buried.  The urn is to be interred in a cemetery in the ground or in a niche in a columbarium.  Anything else is disrespecting the body that God gave us.  Scattering the ashes anywhere, separating the ashes into groups for distribution, or keeping the urn with the ashes in the house for years is absolutely wrong in all cases.

Please remember that life is a gift from God and we are given human life with our bodies and souls together.  We are made in the image and likeness of God!  The idea that our souls are good and sacred and should be respected but our bodies are not is not and has never been a Christian doctrine. I hope this clarification is clear and understandable. If not, please call the church office for further information.

Columbarium SiteWe have 4 free-standing units in our columbarium site (sold out) and 8 units in the wall sections which have available niches at this time.  The site has been designed for future expansion for many years to come.  The current units are available for purchase at a price of $3,000.  All of our niches hold 2 standard urns and the total cost includes engraving.  Urns must be purchased separately from the funeral director of your choice.

The cost of each niche includes an amount equal to the fair market value of the goods or services being provided to Licensee, representing the fee for the License, and the balance (80% of purchase price) is a charitable donation by the Licensee to the Diocese, for the benefit of the Parish (The Diocese is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and donations to it are tax-deductible to the full extent permitted by law.  Please consult your tax advisor regarding specific questions about your donation.  The actual amounts are indicated on the license when the niche is purchased.

StatueThe columbarium is located on the left side of the new church.  It encompasses a peaceful and prayerful setting with a beautiful water feature, the centerpiece of which is a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  We recently added additional units to fill all the wall spaces.  Soon more benches will be available to memorialize with these new units.

If you are interested in purchasing a niche, please complete a COLUMBARIUM REGISTRATION FORM (click on the previous link to print out a form). Forms are also available in the church or parish office.  You can place completed forms in the collection basket, drop them at the office, or mail them in.  You will be called to make an appointment to come in and complete the necessary paperwork, choose your niche and make payment at that time.  We require full payment at the time of purchase - payment plans are not available. Please call Virginia at in the office at ext. 226 with any additional questions.

BISHOP'S ANNUAL APPEAL
BAA LogoThe Bishop’s Annual Appeal (BAA) is a primary source of funding to help sustain and expand ministries of the 96 parishes, 21 missions, 34 Catholic Schools, and agencies throughout the diocese. Each year, every Catholic in the diocese is asked to respond in prayer, in sharing their talents, and in making a sacrificial gift in support of this important appeal.
We hope you will prayerfully consider supporting our Diocese and the many ministries that benefit from your generosity.

HURRICANE PRAYER

O Heavenly Father, all the elements of nature obey your commands, including hurricanes.   Calm the storms that threaten us and turn our fear of Your power into praise of Your goodness. Grant this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
