Formation

We define faith formation as every action, experience, or relationship that nurtures a transformative relationship of trust with God and shapes the way we see and interact with God’s world. Faith formation is the very mission of God’s church, to equip followers of Jesus Christ so that they may be sent out into the world to spread God’s kingdom. Basically, faith formation is the process by which our faith grows, and our lives are shaped by God’s love.

2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

Religious Education for Youth

Our Faith Formation Sunday School will begin in mid-September in person. Mrs. Christine Schwenke will be overseeing the faith formation program.  All families who were registered in Religious Education classes for the 2023-2024 year can pick up registration paperwork or register online beginning April 7, 2024.

Catechesis is sharing the teachings of Jesus Christ in such a way that a person comes to know about God, to believe in Him and His teachings, to enter into a relationship with God, and to be transformed by Him.

The Parish of Saint Michael has developed a variety of catechetical programs which are supported by a number of organizations operating within the parish to insure that parishioners have every opportunity to immerse themselves in the six basic tasks of catechesis in order to enrich their individual journeys of faith here at the local church level.

In order to equip the people of our parish with the skills to fulfill their religious mission received at baptism, the following on-going programs are available:

Sunday School (CCD) is offered for PreK (4 Year Olds) through 6th Grades on Sunday mornings from 10:15 AM until 11:45 AM in the school building and for 7th & 8th Grade students in the Parish Activity Center (PAC). Classes begin in September on the first Sunday after Labor Day and the last class is in the beginning of May.

Along with their weekly meetings, members are encouraged to participate in the ministries at the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass. Students are confirmed in the fall of their freshman year.

Adult Formation

R C I A

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the liturgical and formational process of Christian initiation. The Rite of Christian Initiation was revised and restored in 1972 in accordance with the mandate of the Second Vatican Council and by decree of Pope Paul VI. National statutes for the catechumenate were approved in the United States by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1986. And, finally, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults was mandated for use in the United States beginning on 9/1/88.

The reinstatement of the RCIA restored a vision of the Christian community embraced by the early church, the vision of a people with conversion as its primary focus, the faith community as its context, and discipleship as its goal. The initiation of adults is a gradual process that takes place within the community of the faithful and is highlighted by a series of Rites, which are celebrated within the Mass, our greatest communal event.

Adults of any faith who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Church are invited to join the RCIA process. Catholics who are willing to share their faith by sponsoring an adult seeking to join the Catholic Church, as well as those Catholics who would like to learn more about their faith are encouraged to attend. The RCIA process begins the Wednesday after Labor Day and culminates on the second Wednesday after Easter. Sessions are held every Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Parish Activity Center. The RCIA process is a true spiritual blessing for all who become involved!
